What Do You Stand For?
I don’t mean what do you share on social media about.
I don’t even mean what really makes you sad, mad or just plain crazy.
I mean what do you truly stand for.
I have been fighting social injustice and racism practically all my life. When I was 9 years old my parents emigrated to South Africa. It was during apartheid.
I’ve been writing about why I am Anti-Racist on my personal Facebook page here
So when I was going through my own personal purpose journey I had to make sure that EVERYTHING I did felt in alignment with my integrated personal core values, beliefs and would ultimately lead me to be able to do my bit whilst walking on this beautiful planet of ours.
That meant being incredibly sure of who I am as a person.
Knowing what I am able to do, how I can contribute and choosing what my priorities for making a difference in the world were.
The world has never needed you as much as it does this minute.
It needs your help.
The Samurai warriors were renowned for their code of honour. This code of honor is known as Bushido, and comes from the word bushi, which means “warrior.” The Japanese word do means “the way.” So Bushido means, “the way of the warrior.”
There were seven official virtues of Bushido: righteousness, courage, benevolence, respect, honesty, honor, and loyalty. Piety, wisdom, and care for the elderly were unofficial virtues. By following the Bushido code, a samurai would maintain both honor and political power in Japanese society. Click here to get The Abundant Warrior Course if you haven’t already
So what is your way?
If you are unsure about what you stand for I have a little exercise that can help. This is just one little part of the purpose journey but incredibly useful to ensure that you get clarity and are able to move forward.
Think back over your time here on the planet.
What are those things that made you the most mad, sad or outraged?
What are the things that hurt you or shocked you the most?
To give you an example from my life.
I have been Anti-Racist since I was 9 but there wasn’t much that little old me could do about it until I was older.
I did what I could by raising money through my favorite (read passionate) thing to do in the whole world – music and theatre.
Overtime I became outraged by social injustice an inequality and pursued every which avenue I could in order to find out where I could be of most value and yet found nothing that fit.
Then I got sick.
I vowed to help make the world a better place and yet again searched for a place where I did fit in. Crickets.
I had to do create something. That was obvious.
But I didn’t want to do it in a way that was prescribed as they didn’t feel right to me.
I had to get clear on what did feel right.
What were my non-negotiables’?
What did I want to be seen and heard for?
What were my priorities and how could little old me create the impact and income and influence that would enable me to give back without compromising my own life or that of my family’s?
Once I had been honest to myself (one of my personal core values so if I couldn’t be honest with myself I wouldn’t get very far) I realised that I would not be able to save the world by myself and live on a pacific island whilst looking after all the orphaned aids children at the same time.
But I could do my bit. My way.
With clarity, confidence and conviction.
Because I know what I stand for and I am doing something about it in a way that I am able.
One of the first things you do for a business plan is to outline your business message and values.
One of the last things we do in life is realise that we have not filled our potential whilst here on earth.
Don’t worry about all of the things that you want to put right in the world and end up with regrets because you didn’t do any of them.
Sit down and write down your personal mission statement.
Write your core values first
Write the things that you would really love to stand for next
Prioritize
Let go of the bits that you can’t do or that would be too hard (I had to accept this when diagnosed with PTSD) – Be brutal – You can’t do everything but you can do something.
Then put it all together in a way that fills you up.
It doesn’t matter if it takes you days, weeks or months. You can change it as many times as you like (but you have to take responsibility for getting started at some time so don’t let procrastination win).
I promise you that eventually everything becomes an integrated part of who you are.
You become the embodiment of the assimilation.
This makes you one of the few.
One of the fortunate.
A Woman On Purpose who knows what she stands for!
And that is great because remember – She Is Our Future
We need to work together to make the world a better place.
Much love,
Alex
